Our History
Since we began in 1999, metrochildren has grown from a small, therapist-owned business operating in a small office in Jamaica Estates, Queens, to becoming one of the largest professionally run NYC Early Intervention agencies.
Initially, metrochildren provided Early Intervention evaluations and ongoing services in Queens, including physical therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy for children. Rather than growing quickly, we determined to grow carefully, responsibly, deliberately. We measured our growth by the strength of our infrastructure. Prior to IFSP, we accepted cases that we could staff, while we were developing strong professional relationships with service coordinators and other service providers.
When we were confident that we could maintain our uncompromising professionalism, we applied for and received the amendment to our contract that added Service Coordination and Applied Child Behavior Analysis (ABA) services in Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Bronx. We developed systems and procedures that assured accurate follow up and monitoring of each case.
metrochildren continues to be a unique Early Intervention organization built on the experience and expertise of Sharon Blumenthal, PT and Ruth Meyers, OTR/L. For more than 17 years, they have been bringing together the most capable and most caring professional team to service the individual needs of children and their families. Because of their long-standing reputations in the field, they have attracted skilled and committed professionals who are able to fulfill the daily demands of children and family needs, and assure that each child reaches his/her potential.
